Defense products can often be bulky and ergonomically dubious – although they technically do their job extremely well. Our purpose with Rockwell Collins was to re-envision body-worn products in a way that people would want to use them and enjoy the experience.
The Head-worn display (HWD) glasses incorporate bulky technology within a flowing frame – giving the perception they are small and light. The snap-on ‘goggles’ complete the visual continuity to give an Oakley-like look and feel.
With the flight training helmet, we joined the internal team to express a strong image that would be associated with Rockwell trainingexercises.
The Combiner – Heads-up Display (HUD) is a bulky addition to an otherwise restricted cockpit. Most of the technical detail and hinge points were already developed by the Rockwell team. We assisted in sculpturally integrating and softening the diverse parts into a balanced product.
